7 Days of Prayer for the Widow-Mom

The image of a nursing mother is used twice in scripture. Paul was gentle among those he served, as a “nursing mother cares for her children” (1 Thessalonians 2:7). And God refers to Himself in the same way, “Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15)!

God cares about mothers! He reminds us that they are not forgotten! It is important that we carry the widow-mom to the Lord in prayer.

Let’s give the widow mom the gift of prayer this week as Mother’s Day approaches!

Over the next seven days will you take the challenge to pray for a widow-mom?

Sunday: Lord, the widow mom has a difficult job of caring not only for the physical needs of her children but also their emotional and spiritual needs. Sundays are often difficult because she feels she cannot face another week. As Mother’s Day approaches, bless this precious woman in a special way. Send a friend to her side when needed. Use others to affirm her value and worth in you. Lighten her load in ways she would not expect. Please let her know that you are there. In Jesus’ name amen.

Monday: Lord, we thank you for the special plan you have for the widow and her children. Please increase and strengthen her faith in you. Pour your love through her to her children. Allow the love she feels for her children to be a reminder of your love for her. Let her know that you have not forgotten her. Your love for her is great. Grant to her endurance so that she may remain steadfast in her hope in Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 1:3-4). In Jesus’ name amen.

Tuesday: Lord, you have a special plan for the widow and fatherless during this season. May they surrender themselves as a vessel to be used for your glory. I pray they would grasp their true calling to be a child of God (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12). Thank you for the promise that you will accomplish what concerns them. Your lovingkindness is everlasting (Psalm 138:8). In Jesus’ name amen.

Wednesday: Lord, you are the God of all comfort. You promise to comfort us in all our afflictions (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Let the widow know that you are there to comfort her in a way that only you can. Bind up her broken heart. Give her hope that one day she will give comfort away to those in need. Thank you for the promise of eternal comfort and hope. Motherhood is a super important job. Her work is not in vain. Strengthen her heart for every good work (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17). In Jesus’ name amen.

Thursday: It is easy for the widow mom to grow weary in well-doing. She is exhausted in every way. Every day may feel like a battleground in her emotions, with her children, and in conquering life in general. She is confused, lonely, needs support, and often feels unloved. Lord, direct her heart into a greater understanding of your love for her and into the steadfast endurance of Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 3:5). In Jesus’ name amen.

Friday: Peace, oh how the widow mom needs the gift of peace! During this grieving season allow her to experience peace that surpasses understanding. May you, the Lord of peace, grant her peace in every circumstance. In Jesus’ name amen.

Saturday: Lord, bless and protect her. Thank you for being her defender. Let this widow know that your face radiates with joy because of her. Be gracious to her by placing your favor over her and her children not only in this generation but in the generations to come (Numbers 6:24-26). In Jesus’ name amen.
