When a child loses their dad in the line of duty, grief is complicated with many layers to process. His death leaves behind a newly single mom with the responsibility of raising her children without an earthly dad.

Our mother/daughter guests today provide great insight as they share their experience with losing their husband/daddy while serving his community.

In this episode, the single mom and fatherless daughter duo give insights as they look back on their journey.

The following topics are discussed in this episode:

  • Helping children turn to God, even in their anger
  • Filial therapy as part of healing

Jennifer Thacker’s life was forever changed when her husband was shot and killed in the line of duty.  Connection with other young widows and mothers of fatherless children was crucial. Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) provided an understanding on how to navigate the rocky road of grief while also parenting her daughter as a single mom.

Katherine Embry is a wife and mother, eagerly awaiting the arrival of her second child in October. Her life has been shaped by the loss of her father, who tragically died in the line of duty when she was just 18 months old. Despite the challenges of early grief, Katherine embarked on a journey of forgiveness, finding strength and comfort through her faith in Jesus Christ.
