Prayer Against the Shame of Suicide

Dear God,

I am so very sorry for the suffering ___________ experienced, bringing them to make the decision to take their own life. The struggle was no doubt intense, tormenting, and not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12).

I am sad for ___________, who is left to face the pain of missing ___________, as well as the added layers of grief that will come in processing their death by suicide.

The enemy of our souls may seek to add shame to this great anguish. Satan doesn’t play fair and his main goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Jesus demonstrated the importance of despising shame as He made his way to the cross (Hebrews 12:2).

Thank you for the price He paid so that we can live free of shame.

I pray the following scripture against the shame of suicide:

Lord, throughout your word, you show us that what was meant for evil will be used for good. You reverse the plans of the enemy and work all things together for the good of those who love you.

Thank you for fighting our battles. Thank you for hearing our prayers. Thank you for turning shame back on my enemies:

“My eye has wasted away with grief; it has become old because of all my adversaries. Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping. The LORD has heard my supplication, The LORD receives my prayer. All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed; they shall turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed” (Psalm 6:7-10).

I bind up the spirit of shame in Jesus’ name. Replace shame with honor and security in you.

“Instead of your shame” bless them with a “double portion, and instead of humiliation” let them shout for joy over their portion” (Isaiah 61:7).

Thank you for the promise that you will be a helper so they will not be disgraced. Help them to “set their face like flint” as they move forward with confidence that they will not be put to shame (Isaiah 50:7).

I pray that you will deliver them from fear. May they keep their focus on you. Thank you for the promise that “those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed” (Psalm 34:4-5).

Lord, my greatest prayer is that ___________ will put their trust in you. Thank you for the promise that “those who believe in you will not be put to shame” (Romans 10:11).

In Jesus’ name, amen
