A Single Mother’s Back to School Prayer

Father,

Please go before my child this school year. Surround them with your presence in every classroom, hallway, and lunch table. Be their confidence when they feel unsure. Be their comfort when they feel alone. Be the steady voice of truth when lies try to tell them they are less than or unloved.

Your word says that the Lord will teach all our children, and great shall be the peace of our children (Isaiah 54:13). I hold on to that promise and ask you to be their teacher, counselor, and guide. Be the Father they need every moment of every day.

I pray you will bring just the right friends into their lives—friends who are kind, wise, and strong. Give them teachers and mentors who will advocate for them and show compassion in moments that matter. Use these people to remind my child that you are always with them.

This journey is not easy, and some days, I feel exhausted emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Remind me that you are my helper and my strength.

Thank you for loving my child even more than I do. Thank you for being a faithful Father to the fatherless and a Defender of the widow (Psalm 10:14).

I entrust this school year to you.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
