A Prayer for Freedom

Dear God,

With the 4th of July upon us, we stop to think about freedom, personal and spiritual. It has been said that freedom isn’t free as someone has paid a price. Thank you for the variety of freedoms experienced by those living in the USA, knowing that these are not the same for many worldwide. Thank you for those who fight daily for our country’s protection and have sacrificed their lives for freedom. And, ultimately, thank you for Jesus’ blood shed on the cross that paid the price for our sins so that we could be set free from bondage, experience a personal relationship with you, and be eternally free.

I lift up the widow and fatherless today, knowing that holidays that once were enjoyable to celebrate may now come with a heavy heart and potential for loneliness. I pray for the women who have been left alone as they experience a variety of emotions that come with loss. Lord, give them freedom from the heaviness of grief, freedom from the burden of anxiety, and freedom from the weight of raising kids alone. Bring people to their side to help carry the load.

Thank you for the promise that you will turn her mourning into joy and bring beauty from the ashes of suffering in time.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
