5 Considerations for the Single and Widow Mom this Fall Season

Fall is a favorite season for many, with cooler temperatures and colorful leaves bringing a welcome break from the summer heat.

These changes also signal the start of the holidays, which can bring a mix of emotions.

5 Considerations for the Single and Widow Mom this Fall:

  1. Make new memories: For the new widow, this is a good time to evaluate traditions, keeping some while creating new ones.
  2. Try new recipes: Cooking may be challenging in the early days of grief, but as you move forward, this is a good time to try new dishes. Soups are often a favorite comfort food.
  3. Seek community: Taking your family to a familiar site might be daunting. Invite friends to join you instead of going to the pumpkin patch alone. Time around a fire pit may feel overwhelming alone, so make s’mores indoors (see recipes below) or ask another family to join you. This is a great opportunity to connect with godly families who may eventually come alongside you as mentors for your children.
  4. Find a friend to help you think through your plans for the upcoming holidays.
  5. Trust God: Just as He brings about the change of seasons, He is with you in your widowhood and single parenting season.

S’Mores indoors

Create a S’mores Board by arranging a variety of choices on a tray, then choose one of the following options for assembling your s’more:

  1. Place a marshmallow on a graham cracker and microwave for a few seconds. Top with the chocolate of your choice
  2. Roast a marshmallow over a gas burner or under the broiler in the oven. Place inside two graham crackers layered with chocolate.
  3. S’more party mix – Combine the following ingredients and enjoy!
  • 2 cups chocolate Chex cereal
  • 2 cups of marshmallows
  • 2 cups golden grahams cereal
  • 2 cups of milk chocolate chips

The Fall season reminds us of the beauty of change and teaches us lessons on surrender and letting go. Praise Him in your suffering and offer up a sacrifice of praise.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name ” (Psalm 100:4).
