One of the most daunting tasks for the widow is to make a decision. . . alone. Oh, there may be friends and family who can offer counsel and wisdom, but ultimately, the choice is yours.

It is important to understand that, if you are a widow who has put your trust in God, you are not alone. God is your covering, defender, and goes before and behind you. The Holy Spirit will help you.

These verses have encouraged me when facing an important decision, and I hope they will also encourage you!

  1. The Lord goes before you

“It is the Lord Who goes before you. He will march with you. He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you (let there be no cowardice or flinching, but) fear not, neither be broken (in spirit) (depressed, dismayed and unnerved with alarm).” Deuteronomy 31:8

2. The Lord will instruct and teach with His eye on you

“I the Lord will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:9

3. The Lord is my helper

“We take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my helper, I will not be seized with alarm, I will not fear or dread or I will not be seized with alarm, I will not fear or dread or be terrified.” Hebrews 13:6

4. The Lord fights for me

“Behold, God is my helper and ally; the Lord is my upholder . . . He will pay back evil to all my enemies; in your faithfulness, Lord, put an end to them.” Psalm 54:4

5. The Lord will hold me up

“Fear not [there is nothing to fear] for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you (to difficulties); yes, I will help you, I will hold you up and retain you with my victorious right hand of righteousness and justice.” Isaiah 41:10

6. The Lord is my rear guard

“For you shall not go out with haste, nor shall you go by flight (as was necessary when Israel left Egypt) for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Isaiah 52:12

God wants you to make the right choice more than you do. He is intimately concerned with accomplishing His will for your life, and He will shepherd you through the uncertainties in the moment and the unknowns of the future.

Note: All of the verses above come from the Amplified Classic translation. Personally, I find it helpful to have the meaning amplified as the name states.
